The Pixie of the Rainbow

A little story time of whimsey and tales

I went for a walk on the last night before the Swedish Midsummer celebrations. The sun looked like it’s going to disappear, but in fact its rays stay and shine all night long. It was 22:30 at night, which is exactly the most beautiful time, when its rays hopped over the hills and illuminated everything with golden hues, and the reflections on the lake were spectacular and even dazzling.

I walked towards the houses up the hill. Surrounded by fields filled with flowers, and butterflies flying in the late Swedish night. I was grateful for every step I took on the path up the hill.

The fields were decorated with white, yellow, pink and purple colors. The invasive lupines created a celebration of colors that evoked an uncontrollable smile, and together with the other flowers, they are wrapped in green forests on all sides. Classic Swedish houses and various farms dotted the fields and appeared between trees.

I walked uphill, and for a moment I turned around to look at all the landscapes behind me, including the very picturesque (and modest) church on the horizon. In Sweden, it is impossible to ignore the intense energy of summer, which sometimes feels like spring or even winter of the warm country where I come from. I wandered around, looking for a path into the forest, until I reached a point where I heard a dog barking protectively at his house, and I decided that was my signal to turn back. I have some stressful memories of meeting dogs in the middle of the woods, so I automatically walked a little faster back.

At some point I heard laughter and stopped. Who was there at this late hour? I stopped and there was silence again.

Was I imagining it?

I continued home and suddenly my breath stopped. A large and amazing double rainbow appeared to my right, above the fields and forests, with one of its ends touching one of the red houses. I don't think I've ever seen such a beautiful rainbow, in such a scenic location. I smiled with sparkling eyes, and I realized who it was that was laughing.

I had been told about her before, they said that I might get to meet her here in between the fields and the forests. No one had ever seen her, but some said they had met her - the pixie of the Rainbow. Rumor has it that they had never seen her, but they had always heard her laugh. Every time she laughed, immediately afterwards, a rainbow appeared.

I smiled and realized, I too had met the Rainbow Pixie.

"Thank you for the beautiful rainbow!" I said out loud and looked around, but I didn't see anyone or anything. Finally I walked back home, muttering "Good night, Rainbow Lady."

This is a piece I wrote the very night before the Midsummer celebrations.

The facts happened exactly as I wrote. Except for the little dialogue at the end.

Is it real or fantasy? You decide. ☺️
